Dear miners and relatives, dear friends
It has been a year since you set up your strike tent in Chiatura. It is a focal point for widespread protest against the attacks by Georgian Manganese. It is a sign and symbol of the struggle for a future worth living for you and your children.
It was an honour and an important experience for me to spend a few days participating in your actions and consultations together with two other colleagues from Germany and to contribute the experiences of the militant miners' movement in Germany.
We can continue to learn a great deal from your courage and determination. We parted as friends.
Since then, you have had to face further attacks and confrontations, and your fighting spirit has been put to the test. Four of your strike leaders were arrested and discriminated against with vicious lies and slander.
The verdict against the arrested miners is scandalous. The international miners' movement has protested against it worldwide and adopted a joint statement.
In the meantime, many new developments have taken place and set things in motion throughout the world: the world order as we know it is disintegrating and a battle of annihilation is raging over the redivision of the world, over raw materials, markets and power. More and more countries around the world are being ruled by fascist and ultra-reactionary governments, environmental protection is being increasingly dismantled, and the exploitation and oppression of workers is intensifying.
In response, anti-fascist resistance and worldwide protests against imperialist war are developing. Your struggle is part of the workers' struggles around the world, and you are not alone!
The workers and peoples of the world do not want to live like this, they do not want to perish in capitalist barbarism!
We stand by your side – long live international solidarity!
Good luck
Andreas Tadysiak
Chief Coordinator of the International Miners' Coordination
