ICG appeal on International Women's Day on 8 March 2026

International Women's Day 2026 is taking place in a difficult situation: the relentless competition between international corporations for the redistribution of markets and control of raw materials.
The increasing right-wing tendencies and fascism of the governments subservient to them are leading to more and more military conflicts and enormous destruction of infrastructure and nature.

In Ukraine, this Women's Day is taking place for the fourth time in a situation of severe war turmoil. In addition to the oppression of the working class, and women in particular, by Ukrainian capitalism, the country and the freedom-loving Ukrainian people are being destroyed on a daily basis by the military aggression of Russian imperialism with missiles, aerial bombs and combat drones. Western imperialism is exploiting Ukraine's difficult situation to increase its influence and strengthen economic and military dependence. Recently, a Russian combat drone killed a group of miners who were on their way home to their wives and families after a hard day's work. Our sympathy goes out to the wives and families. In Congo, women are degraded to spoils of war, exploited as cheap labour in the mines of eastern Congo and additionally subjected to rape. The situation is further exacerbated by the attack on Iran by the USA and Israel.
The International Miners' Coordination is committed to equality for women in its international struggle programme – against all forms of special exploitation and oppression, such as lower pay and discrimination through unequal treatment, sexual oppression and violence. While mining companies amass wealth at the expense of miners' lives, the latter often die prematurely due to occupational diseases or accidents at work, leaving their widows and children in a difficult social situation
The main burden of war and capitalism is borne by working women, especially miners' wives and female miners.
People become victims of imperialist contradictions.
Now it is more important than ever that we support women in their struggle for liberation!
The International Miners' Coordination calls for solidarity with women workers and miners! We support each other in difficult times and fight together.
As long as capitalism exists, women will never be completely equal to men. Our common vision is a ‘rich, dignified and healthy life for all people in harmony with nature – without exploitation and oppression.’ (Excerpt from the International Struggle Programme).
For us, 8 March is a day of struggle! The struggle of women for genuine equality, for respect for their work, for their social freedom!

Long live International Women's Day – Against fascism and war – the day of international solidarity with the women of the world!
