ICG: "Glück Auf" miners, relatives and friends,

As we have learnt from our Africa coordinator, a horrific accident occurred underground in a coal mine in Jerada. The three victims were poisoned by carbon monoxide in a mine where they had been working in precarious conditions and without any safety precautions and died. A fourth young miner died in the coal mine in Beni Tadjit. I would like to express my solidarity and sympathy to the colleagues and family members.

I myself worked in the German underground coal industry for 35 years and I know what a heavy burden such an accident is for those affected. We are currently preparing the 3rd International Miners' Conference. Many miners here in Germany are deeply shocked and wish for a complete clarification of the cause of the accidents. But also that there is financial security and compensation for the family members. We, the International Miners' Coordination Group, are thinking of the colleagues and relatives of the miners. We, the International Miners' Coordination, demand the "highest occupational safety for the physical and mental health of the miners". (Struggle Programme of the International Miners' Coordination). This must be guaranteed by the company. We support a full investigation into the causes of this accident and that those responsible are held accountable! We demand unconditional compensation and care for the miners' relatives! We have united in the International Miners' Coordination and promote the common international struggle of the miners. For this purpose, our 3rd International Miners' Conference Thuringia/Germany will take place from 31.8.2023 to 3.9.2023. We invite you to join us. In deep condolences and with solidarity greetings, Andreas Tadysiak Main Coordinator of the International Miners' Coordination
