The Chingola mine is an illegal open-cast copper mine where work is carried out without a licence. In this respect, there is also no information about how many miners are working there. The accident was caused by a landslide after heavy rainfall. The miners were buried and probably drowned.

This week, Baguio City is once again set to host the 69th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference, more commonly known before as the Mine Safety Week. Civil-society and peoples' organizations are known to conduct parallel commemorations called Mines "Unsafety" Week in order to combat the claims of mining corporations regarding the impacts of their mining operations.
Dear colleagues, We have learnt about your strike for every job and training place at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG. It is unacceptable that a "secret contract" is being used to decide on your colleagues. On behalf of the International Miners' Coordination, I would like to express our solidarity with your strike. At the 3rd International Miners' Conference, the solidarity between dockers and miners was demonstrated.

Subject: Mine accident at the Kostenko mine in Karaganda
Dear Sir or Madam,
We are horrified by the death of the 38 miners so far, as well as the many injured. At the same time, we feel anger and indignation that accidents like yesterday's at the Kostenko mine in Karaganda are still happening. This does not have to happen again in this day and age. There have long been experiences, methods and technical possibilities to protect the safety of the miners and also the people living around a mine from harm.
The 3rd International Miners’ Conference (IMC), held from 31 August to 3 September 2023, took a great step forward concerning the international unification of the world’s miners. 35 experienced delegates from 19 countries1 exchanged opinions and experiences and decided with great seriousness on a closer and more powerful cooperation in the future.
For two months, a total of 2,000 workers from IndustriALL affiliate Los Mineros have been on strike at the Peñasquito mine in Zacatecas State, Mexico. Operations at the country's largest gold mine were halted in response to the company’s violations of several clauses of the collective bargaining agreement. Workers from Section 304 of SNTMMSSRM, also known as the Los Mineros, began their strike at the Peñasquito mine, a subsidiary of US company Newmont, on 7 June.
A delegation from Miners for AUF and one with members of the MLPD from Germany also took part in the 137th Durham Miners Gala on 8 July. The Durham County coalfield is located in the north-east of England. It is known for its militant miners' movement. This tradition connects with today's struggles and demands of the working class for higher wages, against the increase of the retirement age, for saving the environment.
With the transfer to renewable energy and electric vehicles, the race is on by multinational corporations to control the mining and processing of copper. The largest copper mine, Olympic Dam in Australia, is owned by multinational corporation BHP which also owns the Escondida Mine in Chile. BHP has recently bought Oz Minerals copper mines, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena in South Australia located south west of Olympic Dam and its town Roxby Downs.
