The Independent Miners’ Union announced today that the nine-day hunger strike and protests in Ankara have been a success: the miners have secured their demands! Wages and outstanding entitlements are to be paid. What a union representative said in recent days has proved true: “They fear the miners, and rightly so! When the miners march, the feet of the holding companies and the centres of power tremble…”
At the same time, the union points out that the implementation of the agreement depends on “public attention and support”.
Just as the public has shown solidarity in supporting the miners’ struggle, right down to the football stadiums, continued solidarity and vigilance are now essential! E
