ICG call for Environment Action Day in November 2025

The United Nations Climate Change Conference will take place in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. World leaders, scientists, activists and decision-makers will gather at this symbolic location. The Amazon rainforest plays an important role in regulating the Earth's climate by absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide. However, deforestation, illegal mining and environmental destruction are threatening this fragile ecosystem.

The International Miners' Coordination is commemorating the International Day of Action to Save the Environment together with other forces around the world climate conference around 15 November. It is taking place in a situation of great change and challenges: the fascist Trump wants to establish a fascist dictatorship in the USA and realise his claim to world domination by US imperialism. International competition between old and new imperialist forces is intensifying, with trade wars and increased military conflicts. And there is a danger that
the international conflict of wars in Ukraine, the Middle East, Equatorial Africa and other wars, as well as the global unrest caused by the genocide of the Palestinian people by Israeli Zionism, could escalate into a global war, even a nuclear war. These wars are further exacerbating the enormous destruction of the environment. The international mining monopolies and their subservient, often fascist or reactionary governments want to secure access to global raw material sources and sales markets by any means and at any price. The burdens are being shifted onto miners and the masses around the world, environmental protection is being increasingly scaled back, and civil democratic rights are being further eroded. Since early 2025, the United States has withdrawn from the Paris Agreement following an executive order by the new administration. The decision has caused global concern, as the US remains one of the largest historical emitters of greenhouse gases. The US had committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, but its recent withdrawal has been criticised by environmental groups and some leading politicians around the world as a setback for international cooperation. The Earth is our mother. Protecting it is fundamental to the preservation of our lives and nature. That is why we must understand and nurture our relationship with the environment so that the growth of humanity is sustainable with natural resources. It is necessary to protect the biological diversity of fauna and flora and the interdependence of species, including humans.
Miners are particularly affected by increased exploitation and oppression, and many are fighting for jobs, occupational safety, higher wages, the preservation of the natural environment and the preservation of livelihoods. We recall the struggle of miners with the environmental movement in Datteln, Germany, in 2020 against the construction of a new coal-fired power plant, and the general strike of miners in Peru with local communities against environmentally destructive mining projects in 2019.
Miners and environmental activists, together with social movements of women, youth, small and medium-sized farmers for comprehensive protection and immediate measures to save the natural environment, are a powerful force when they fight together in unity.

This struggle is inextricably linked to the struggle against global imperialism and the building of a liberated society without exploitation and oppression, in harmony with nature.
Let us stand up against the global environmental catastrophe that has begun!

Good luck
