Solidarity to the miners at Tara Mines

To the miners of Tara Mines Dear miners and relatives We have heard that the Boliden Corporation wants to temporarily shut down your mine, one of the largest zinc mines in the world. Most of you are to stay at home without pay. Since the mine was established in 1977, the various owner companies have extracted fabulous profits from the miners, who have produced a total of more than 85 million tonnes of zinc.

Now - when the price of zinc has temporarily dropped by about 20% - the company wants to get rid of the workers in order to get them back to work in the next price boom. On 5.7.23 you went on strike for a while and blocked the factory gates. In doing so, you sent a signal that you will not accept this attack on your livelihood and that of your families without a fight. You have my full solidarity and support. As a former coal miner with about 35 years underground in Germany, I know all kinds of promises and so-called compromise proposals of the government and the management and I want to tell you: make your own calculations and be critical of their logic of subordinating the workers to the fluctuating world market prices due to speculation. As the main coordinator of the International Miners' Coordination, it is my responsibility to organise solidarity and support with you and to publicise your struggle internationally. It is right and brave of you to lead the struggle for your future at a time when the burdens of the global economic and financial crisis are being passed on to the workers and their families. The principle of our miners' coordination is that we miners and our families cooperate internationally and coordinate our struggles if we are to become a superior force to the international mining monopolies and their governments. At our founding conference in Arequiepa/Peru in 2013, we stated: "It is less and less possible today to stand up to the international mining monopolies in isolation from each other and in a localised way. What we need is the unity of workers worldwide." We have nothing to expect from the right-wing governments and their lying promises - we have to take care of ourselves! I invite you to attend the 3rd International Miners' Conference in Germany from 31.8 to 3 September 2023 and report on your situation and struggle. Join our international miners' coordination! We will publicise your situation and your struggle internationally on our homepage. Good luck in your struggle! With militant and solidary greetings and Glück Auf (German miners' greeting)! Andreas Tadysiak Main Coordinator of the International Miners' Coordination
