A trade union colleague from Morocco sent the following report

Good evening, comrades, I hope you are all well and in good health.
I would like to inform you that since 27 September 2025, there have been a series of protests in Morocco led by Generation Z 212, i.e. young people who were born in a time of crisis and upheaval. They have taken to the streets of major cities such as Rabat, Casablanca, Fez, Tangier, Marrakesh, Agadir... as well as marginalised cities in the interior of the country such as Oujda and Jerada.

Their slogans call for social justice, improved education, access to healthcare, job creation and a dignified life. This movement expresses deep dissatisfaction with policies that exacerbate social inequalities and have entrenched what the protesters call the ‘government of capital,’ characterised by the fusion of money and power in the hands of a minority.
In response, the authorities have arrested dozens of young people, human rights activists, politicians and trade unionists and violently dispersed demonstrations in several cities. Peaceful sit-ins often escalate into clashes due to illegal interventions and provocations by the security forces, which in turn leads to mutual violence on the part of some demonstrators. Despite these attempts at repression, young people continue to express their rejection of current policies and affirm that their voice is the only means of bringing about real change and building a Morocco that guarantees freedom and social justice.
Yours sincerely,
