Infobrief No. 5 on the preparation of the country reports for the 3rd IMC

Hello delegations of the 3rd IMC, 1. the importance of the country reports With the reports on their country, the respective delegations from the different countries present the particular situation of the miners, the struggles, progress and problems of the miners' movement in their country to the other participants at the beginning of the conference.

The country reports are a democratic working basis for all participants of the 3rd IMC. In their entirety, they present the current struggles and situation of the international miners' movement, on the basis of which important core questions will be discussed, deliberated and answered at the conference. The reports are thus also a main method of preparing the delegations and their delegates for the conference. In order to promote an equal process on an equal footing, the International Mineworkers Coordination Group proposes that the structure, form and length of the country reports should be as uniform as possible. In view of the expected number of participants, they should be able to be presented within 5 minutes.
2 What should the country reports cover, if possible? At the beginning of the reports it is useful to introduce the country, the dimension of mining and the current situation of the miners: How many miners are there nationwide and what is the breakdown in sectors or industries? Which raw materials are mined with which methods and under which conditions? How does mining affect working and living conditions? Which international mining monopolies or which international financial capital are the miners' opponents? The reports should focus on the current disputes and struggles of the miners and the particular problems that need to be solved:

  1. What was fought for, your main demands and what was achieved?
  2. How was the struggle conducted? What forms and methods of struggle were developed? What specific experiences of struggle does your miners' movement have?
  3. What questions or problems arise about organising the miners?
  4. Who are the miners' allies with whom they can unite?

3. the form of the reports The International Miners' Coordination Group proposes that the country reports be in the form of PowerPoint presentations. The reports will be presented in German, the conference language. Please discuss to what extent you could do your own translation of the reports from your national language into German.
